What happens if I fail a class at UNT? ›

A student who fails an elective course may retake the course, but only the original failing grade will count toward the student's cumulative GPA. If the student passes the course, the student will be awarded the associated credit hours, but the new grade will not count toward the student's semester or cumulative GPA.

The lowest passing grade is a D. A grade of “no credit” will not be calculated within the grade point average; however, if a student receives a grade of no credit, he or she does not earn the credit for that course and, if the course is required, the student must repeat the course.

Funding your education. UNT annually awards $405 million in financial aid, including more than $60 million in scholarships. About 75% of UNT students receive financial aid and scholarships.

6-Drop Limit

This total includes any course a transfer student has withdrawn at another Texas public institution of higher education. This does not apply to courses dropped prior to the census date or courses withdrawn with a grade of WF and does not apply if the student withdraws for the term or session.

If you fail a class in college, this will impact your grade-point average (GPA). Failing a class causes the grade point to 'zero' out, which will impact the average of other numerical grades (an A grade is the equivalent of 4 points, B being 3 points, and so on).

All new freshmen students are required to participate in First Flight Week. All freshmen will be assigned a First Flight Leader and will participate in small group meetings, a career readiness session, and have the opportunity to attend programs throughout the week.

The letter Z is used to indicate that a grade was not properly received and/or recorded for a course.

What GPA do you need to get into UNT? ›

Unweighted GPA (3.0+)

Students with a cumulative unweighted high school GPA of 3.0 or higher are guaranteed admission to UNT.

Z grades. A Z on your transcript indicates that the Professor never reported a grade for you. This most often happens in Independent Study or Honors courses when students hand in a paper late. If you see a Z on your record, contact the professor of the course immediately.

Average Total Cost of Attendance (2024-2025)

The average annual cost of attendance for a Texas resident living on campus and enrolled in 15 hours per semester is $28,494. The average annual cost of attendance for a Texas resident living off campus and enrolled in 9 hours per semester is $26,774.

UNT Promise Programs and Partnerships ensure eligible students will receive a combination of federal, state, and/or institutional funding to cover the full cost of tuition and mandatory fees in fall and spring semesters.

Failing one or more classes could result in academic probation or suspension, depending on your school's policy or the requirements for your major. Most schools place students on academic probation if they fall below a minimum 2.0 GPA at the end of any semester.

A student may take a course a second or subsequent time. The Registrar's Office will post course duplications at the request of the student, at the request of an academic advisor or upon review of the student's record.

In extreme cases, failing multiple classes or a high-credit course can result in academic dismissal. Academic dismissal means you can no longer continue your studies at the college or university.

If the class you failed is in a subject that is not directly related to your intended major or career path, it probably will have less of an impact. On the flip side, failing a class that is extremely important to what you plan on studying has far more of an impact on your overall application.
